The Salt Lake City Public Library Board of Directors makes and adopts rules and regulations that govern the Salt Lake City Public library. This board oversees the library budget, including expenditures from the library fund, construction, lease, sale of library buildings and land, and the operation and care of the libraries and branches. The Board also produces an annual report to Mayor Erin Mendenhall and City Council on the condition and operation of the library, including financial statements.

Vacancies

The Library Board has three (3) vacancies with a need for Districts 1, 5, and 6 representation. If you are interested in serving on this board, please fill out and submit an application online. To find out which district you reside in go here.

Please see below for all upcoming term expiration/vacancy dates. Only applications submitted up to one year prior to a vacancy date will be considered. The Mayor’s office will only contact applicants when considering them for specific appointments.

Member Qualifications

There are five to nine members on this board, with three year terms each. The Board will appoint one person as Director to have immediate charge of the library. The Director will act as executive officer of the Board and will have duties and compensation as determined. Not more than one member of the City Council can be a member of such a board.

Residency Requirement: Must be a resident of the City.
