Salt Lake City’s Sister Cities Board serves an advisory role to Mayor Erin Mendenhall on the Sister Cities program. The board is responsible for implementing the goals and objectives of the Sister Cities program.

Member Qualifications

Sister Cities Board members serve (up to two) four-year terms with the option to become a non-voting member after term expiration. The Board is made up of 7-9 voting, up to 6 non-voting members and allows for up to two (2) youth members (ages 15-18). Board members are generally community representatives with interests in the sister cities program, strong ties to Salt Lake Sister Cities are helpful but not required. In addition to the Sister Cities Advisory Board, a group of local representatives work behind the scenes to accomplish the tasks that make sister city relationships work.

Residency Requirement: Must reside in Salt Lake City*.

*Approval outside of Salt Lake City boundaries at discretion of Mayor and City Council

Meetings will take place on the first Wednesday of the month from 5-6:30pm. Location will be indicated in “Agendas and Minutes


Powers and Duties

  • Advise Mayor Mendenhall and City Council on Sister Cities program
  • Work to implement goals of the Sister Cities Program
  • Make budget recommendations and oversee budget transactions for program
  • Provide annual report to the Office of the Mayor on programs
  • Review requests for Sister City partnerships
