Thank you to everyone who attended my October District 5 Town Hall! For those who were unable to join, here’s a recap of what was covered:
City Council Updates
Book Cliffs Project
- The Book Cliffs housing project, located at 1159 South West Temple, is on track for completion thanks to coordination between the Community Reinvestment Agency (CRA) and the Housing Authority of the Metropolitan Entity (HAME).
- Updated terms for the project include $4.64 million loan to be paid over 40 years at a 2.5% interest rate.

Justice Systems Capacity
- This new proposal removes the limit on the number of Justice Court judges.
- This will help ensure the Salt Lake City Justice Court can meet growing caseloads and evolving community needs.
Sugar House S-Line Extension
The CRA shared plans to repurpose priority land that was part of the former Sugar House Project Area to facilitate the S-Line extension into the Sugar House Shopping Center.
Sampson Altadena Condos
The Council adopted an ordinance to designate the Sampson and Altadena Apartments, located 276 East 300 South and 310 South 300 East, as a local landmark site.
RMF-35 and RMF-45 Multifamily Merger
The City continues discussions to update the RMF-35 and RMF-45 zoning maps and rules.
- Proposed updates include:
- Setting design standards for new development
- Reducing minimum lot sizes

SLC Police Department
The Salt Lake City Police Department reported that the department is now fully staffed.
District 5 Crime Trends
- Burglaries have decreased.
- Violent crime is down 10%.
- Overall crime is down 10.3% compared to last year.
Residents are encouraged to report encampments through mySLC, as numbers tend to rise during colder months. Officers also reminded residents to stay inside their vehicles while warming them up during the winter, as this is a common time for vehicle thefts.
The Ballpark neighborhood remains one of the busiest areas for calls, though most incidents involve noise complaints rather than violent crimes. Police bike patrols are also active throughout the district.
Public Utilities
Construction continues along West Temple, which is currently open only to local traffic. The closure is due to the rehabilitation of the West Temple Sewer Line due to aging.
