Wildfire Preparedness

The wildfires that rocked Southern California are a perfect example of how it’s never too early to be prepared for any emergency.

The threat of wildfires is real, but many resources, especially the Salt Lake City Fire Department (SLCFD), are available to prepare.

SLCFD is one of several hundred fire departments in the country and the first in Utah with a Class 1 rating for fire safety, the highest safety-and-risk evaluation rating nationwide.

One of the Council’s top priorities is preparing our city for potential wildfires. We are actively working with our partners to update the City’s mitigation plans.

Here are some wildfire safety and prevention tips to help you prepare:

  • Create an evacuation plan.
  • Request a free assessment to get tips on protecting your home.
  • Sign up to receive emergency alerts on your phone.
  • Fireworks are prohibited in District Six and most of Salt Lake City.
  • If a fire starts or grows uncontrollably, call 9-1-1 immediately.
