City Business 101: Sales Tax

Sales tax is the tax consumers pay when buying taxable items, including prepared food, clothing, event admission, hotels, and other goods or services. The State determines which goods and services are subject to sales tax in Utah.

In Salt Lake City, consumers pay a 7.75% sales tax. The State, UTA, City, and Salt Lake County all receive a portion of the revenue generated from sales tax. This money goes towards public services, transportation, entertainment, and more.
