Salt Lake City Vegan Bakery Gets EDLF Loan to Assist Building Out First Physical Location

Eats Bakery was recently approved for an Economic Development Loan Fund loan from The Salt Lake City Department of Economic Development

The Salt Lake City Council recently approved a $100,000 Economic Development Loan Fund (EDLF) loan for Eats Bakery. The loan would assist with the build-out of their first brick-and-mortar location at 592 West and 200 South. Eats Bakery worked with the Department of Economic Development’s Business Development Division to qualify for the loan.

“Eats Bakery is an exciting addition to Salt Lake City’s rich culinary landscape,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “It’s a win for our residents, workers, and visitors when small food businesses open up shop here.”

Eats Bakery, which opened in 2020, specializes in making delicious vegan sweet rolls, donuts, and cookies. You can also find Eats’ vegan treats at farmers markets, including the SLC Farmers Market and Winter Market, and at festivals.

“I’m proud of our Business Development team and the EDLF loan they administer because the work they do supports our local business community,” said Lorena Riffo Jenson, Director of Salt Lake City’s Department of Economic Development. “The help they provide our businesses has reverberating impacts on the culture and economy of our city.”

“We look forward to seeing Eats Bakery thrive and contribute to the local economy,” said Roberta Reichgelt, Business Development Director. “Our team is committed to fostering growth and prosperity within our business community, and we believe Eats Bakery will play an integral role in that pursuit.”

The EDLF aims to stimulate business development and expansion, create employment opportunities, encourage private investment, promote economic development, and enhance neighborhood vitality and commercial enterprise in Salt Lake City by making loans available to businesses. The program’s overarching goal is to invest in viable businesses that produce strong economic returns and provide positive social and environmental impacts. Learn more here.
