Event Details

Come train your dog with a professional dog trainer on Sundays from 10 AM to 12 PM at Memory Grove Park! This event is FREE with no registration necessary. Just bring your dog, a leash, and a paws-itive attitude! The event will be found on the South side of Memory Grove Park in the large field area. Come on your own schedule within the designated time to work on skills with the help of a trainer. We kindly request that you bring your healthy and well-behaved dogs to ensure the comfort of other pets and their owners.

Meet the Trainer

Courtney Stauffer is a certified dog trainer at Bark to Basics. Her goal is to prove that all dogs are capable of learning through positive reinforcement, connections, and commitment from their humans!

Training Schedule

May 4th

  • 10:00 – 10:30 Welcome and introductions
  • 10:30 -11:30 Intro to Bark To Basics training philosophy using positive reinforcement, how dogs learn through relationship building, management, and training. Briefly discuss diet and nutrition and how it affects behavior and the power of play and enrichment.
  • 11:30 – 12:00 Q&A 

May 11th

  • 10:00 – 10:30 Welcome and introductions
  • 10:30 – 11:30 Intro to four key leadership exercises i.e. Reuniting Rule (helps to curtail jumping), Food Exercise (opportunity to ask and strengthen a sit, wait, and release cue to instill impulse control), Taking Control of the Walk (learn how to ask for a Loose Leash with a calm confidence), Excessive Barking (learn how to effectively curtail excessive barking)
  • 11:30 – 12:00 Q & A

May 18th

  • 10:00 – 10:30 Welcome and introductions
  • 10:30 – 11:30 Recall or Come When Called. Discuss the 5 Rules of Recall with the goal to introduce the concept of come when called and how to develop a reliable recall over time. Trainer to demonstrate how to work the 5 Rules of Recall in a distracting environment.
  • 11:30 – 12:00 Q &A

May 25th

  • 10:00 – 10:30 Welcome class attendees and have them fill out an attendance list and training goal sheet for their dog.
  • 10:30 – 11:30 Discuss the difference between Stay vs Wait, Down vs Off, Leave It vs Drop It, and know when to ask for the specific behavior(s). Trainer to demonstrate how to shape and reinforce the class majority vote of the above-mentioned behavior(s).
  • 11:30 – 12:00 Q & A

Is this event free?

Yes! This event is completely free.

Do I have to register my dog in advance?

Nope! There is no need to register for this event. You can just stop by anytime between 10am-12pm to receive guidance.

What kinds of tips and tricks will I learn?

That depends on what you want to learn! Trainers are willing to show you tips and tricks to train your dog on just about anything. For example, if your dog struggles to walk on a leash, you can talk to a trainer on how to train your dog to walk better on-leash.
