Effective immediately: residential evacuations have been lifted. Residents of the VUE and Sugarmont apartments may return to their units. Leave tags on door, to be removed today. Business closures in effect will remain in place until further notice.

Highland Drive between 2100 S and Sugarmont Ave remains closed. McClelland Street has reopened. All businesses north of and including Standard Optical, and all on the east side of Highland Drive are open. Zions Bank is open. West parking access to the VUE and Sugarmont apartments is now available.

Evacuations remain in effect for those residents of the Sugarmont and Vue Apartments in the direct vicinity of the demolition zone. All affected have been notified.

The Red Cross shelter was not utilized last night so it was shut down at 8:00 AM this morning. If assistance is needed, those affected can call 1-800-REDCROSS for help.

The American Red Cross is providing overnight shelter to those residents who have been evacuated. The shelter initially provided at the Forest Dale Community Center has been relocated to the LDS Church, located at 2005 South 900 East. Individuals who need current information or Red Cross assistance should call 800-733-2767.
If residents or community members observe debris that has landed on property, please practice caution prior to handling any objects. Don respiratory protection (an N95 or better mask) and gloves; include other personal protective equipment (PPE) if needed. Soak debris or ash with a garden hose or other appropriate water supply to ensure that the debris is fully extinguished and does not pose further fire risk. Once extinguished, collect debris and place it in an exterior trash receptacle. Any trash receptacle that contains fire debris should be located away from the house or other structure in the event of a possible fire rekindle.
The fire scene will continue to generate smoke. Residents who have respiratory concerns or others who are at high-risk of smoke contamination should consider relocating. Those high-risk individuals who are unable to or uninterested in relocating should don respiratory protection (N95 or better mask). All residents should ensure windows and doors are closed until the smoke subsides.
Streets near the fire scene will continue to experience traffic issues while demolition and firefighting operations continue. 2100-2200 South Highland Drive and lower Wilmington Avenue remain closed to public access.

Demolition units will be on scene tonight 10/26 from approx. 5:00 pm through the night.
This will continue to affect traffic patterns and residential reoccupation during firefighting efforts.
Sugarmont Apartments:
North and East appts that face the fire scene will not be allowed to be reoccupied until demolition and firefighting efforts have subsided.

Most residents of the Sugarmont and VUE Apartments may occupy their residences except those in the direct vicinity of the structure fire.

Apartment access is restricted. Police officers are onsite to escort for limited entry.
