Welcome to the Salt Lake City Fire Department website. It is our pleasure to help you learn more about who we are and what we do for our customers. From our sustainable infrastructure, to our diverse communities and neighborhoods, Utah’s Capital City fire department strives to maintain a focus on providing value to the residents, business owners, and visitors who live, work and play within its boundaries. The goal of the Salt Lake City Fire Department is to promote safety and assist people in their time of crisis. We seek not only to make a good impression, but to provide the public piece of mind that their fire department is capable, ready, and willing to help them when they need it.

Nearly 400 employees of SLC Fire serve our community from 14 strategically located stations, divided into two battalions. Within its boundaries, SLC Fire operates three trucks, 11 engines, two Quints, four specialized airport fire suppression apparatus, and two light (SUV) medical response teams. Although SLC Fire specializes in urban structural firefighting and emergency medical services, our crews are prepared to respond to any emergency involving Hazardous Material, Heavy Rescue, Swift Water, or Aircraft Rescue.  In 2021, our ISO Class 1 department responded to over 30,000 unique calls for assistance. To learn more about our monthly call volume and other department initiatives, please read our Community Newsletter.

We invite our neighbors to get to know us and learn about the various roles of their fire department. If you want to schedule a visit to a local station, invite a crew to your upcoming community event, or learn how to become a member of SLC Fire, we would be happy to provide you with additional information.  Please explore this website for many of the most common questions we receive. And if there is something you can’t find here, we invite you to call or email us for more information.

Be Safe,

Karl Lieb
