July 2026 Update: The project is nearing completion! Paving, concrete work, and speed bump installation are complete. Remaining work includes the traffic circle at 500 South, landscape restoration, and final roadway striping.

Crews will install roadway striping and flashing crosswalk signs at the 400 South and Navajo Street intersection overnight from 9 p.m. Friday, July 31, to 5 a.m. Saturday, August 1. Westbound traffic will detour to 300 South, Eastbound traffic will detour to 500 South. Nearby residents may experience increased construction noise during these hours.

At the railroad crossing, crews will remove and replace the concrete panels near the tracks, install a new driveway for maintenance access, and upgrade the crossing gate system to include four gate arms. Signs and roadway markings will also be updated.

400 South Jordan River Bridge

400 South Jordan River Bridge

Design work on this bridge is ongoing. Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2026. More details will be available as the start date gets closer.

The 400 South and 500 South bridges over the Jordan River were built between 1956 and 1960 and are considered in poor condition. Bridges from that era typically have a 60–70 year lifespan. The bridges are being rebuilt with federal, state, and city funds to meet modern standards and will be designed to withstand 100-year floods and earthquakes. They will also improve safety and comfort for people walking, biking, and driving. Each reconstruction is expected to take six to eight months.

500 South Jordan River Bridge

500 South Jordan River Bridge

Construction on this bridge has been delayed due to material shortages and is now anticipated to begin in mid-August. This is the best estimation of when work will start and the timeline is subject to change. 500 South is anticipated to be closed for up to 6 months to complete the work once it begins.

Current Impacts

  • Noise, dust, and vibration will occur with this work.
  • Traffic is shifted to the north side of the road as crews upgrade the waterline, located on the south half of the street.
  • Jordan River Tail access is available during this time. Please follow posted signage.
  • There is no on-street parking between Goshen Street and Emery Street to accommodate construction vehicles and equipment.

A yellow dashed line indicates the detour. If traveling east on 500 South, drivers are directed to turn north on Emery St, then east on Poplar Grove (400 S), and finally south on 1000 West to return to 500 South.
