At the railroad crossing, crews will remove and replace the concrete panels near the tracks, install a new driveway for maintenance access, and upgrade the crossing gate system to include four gate arms. Signs and roadway markings will also be updated.

400 South Jordan River bridge

400 South Jordan River bridge

Design work on this bridge is ongoing. Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2026. More details will be available as the start date gets closer.

The 400 South and 500 South bridges over the Jordan River were built between 1956 and 1960 and are considered in poor condition. Bridges from that era typically have a 60–70 year lifespan. The bridges are being rebuilt with federal, state, and city funds to meet modern standards and will be designed to withstand 100-year floods and earthquakes. They will also improve safety and comfort for people walking, biking, and driving. Each reconstruction is expected to take six to eight months.

Work has already begun on this bridge and is anticipated to be completed in fall 2026. The full road closure has been moved forward to early/mid-May to accommodate additional waterline work. On-street parking is expected to remain available until the closure is in effect

Gemini said A map of a road closure and detour in a neighborhood. The map shows 500 South closed at the bridge over the Jordan River, between Emery St and Jake Garn Blvd. A small orange-striped rectangle marks the closure on 500 South where it crosses the Jordan River. A yellow dashed line indicates the detour.
