Help Shape the Future of Liberty Park!
Liberty Park, the oldest park in Utah, is more than just a green space. It is the heart of the 9th and 9th and Liberty Wells neighborhoods. With its walking paths, playgrounds, and community gathering areas, the park is a hub. Generations of Salt Lake City residents have made memories there and the Department of Public Lands wants Liberty Park to continue to thrive for years to come.
As Salt Lake City continues to grow and evolve, our parks and public lands must grow with us. That is why the city released the Reimagine Nature Master Plan in 2021. This long-term plan is designed to keep our public lands inclusive and accessible for all. One of the key priorities identified in that plan was to create a comprehensive vision for the future of Liberty Park.
What is happening now?
To guide this effort, the city is creating a Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) and a Vision Plan specifically for Liberty Park.
The CLR will analyze and record the historical significance, features, and current condition of Liberty Park’s landscape, and how it has been used over the years. It will examine everything from the park’s cultural heritage to natural environment.
Using the Cultural Landscape Report, along with community input and city goals, a Vision Plan will be developed to guide the park’s future. This 10-year plan will focus on how to preserve historical aspects of the park, outline goals, and explain implementation strategies to ensure the park meets accessibility and sustainability standards to keep Liberty Park a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone.
