Salt Lake City to celebrate the reopening of Liberty Park’s inclusive Rotary Play Park

Salt Lake City will celebrate the grand reopening of Liberty Park’s Rotary Play Park on Monday, Oct. 26, after a one-year transformation that created a more inclusive, accessible, and imaginative play space.

The redesigned playground offers children of all ages and abilities more opportunities to play, explore, build skills, and connect. Shaped by extensive community engagement, the design reflects input from families and accessibility experts who emphasized imaginative play, natural spaces, shade, and safety.

New features include a climbing tower, group pendulum swing, wheelchair accessible spin carousel, splash zone, sand tables, meadow maze, in-ground jumpers, swings, slides, and natural play areas. Adaptive interpretive features support children with vision, hearing, and communication differences, while inclusive equipment encourages both independent exploration and shared play.

Funded by $3 million from the City’s Parks, Trails, and Open Space General Obligation Bond, and $2 million from Park Impact Fees, the improvements build on Rotary Play Park’s legacy as a place where children of all abilities can play together.
