Wasatch Plunge Warm Springs Stabilization

Project updates (now complete)
The final scope for the Wasatch Plunge Building (Warm Springs) stabilization project was completed December 2025 with the setting of the rebuilt top of the chimney stack that was damaged in the 2020 earthquake. This was preceded by the completion of a larger stabilization project in October 2025. The $8 million project was funded with a tax-exempt revenue bond, with an additional $280,000 from the earthquake insurance claim.
The Wasatch Plunge Building has been unoccupied for over 20 years. Over that time, the building was suspect to water infiltration which caused an already compromised building by the intrusion of chlorine in the 1940’s to further deteriorate.
Funded in 2022, a team of professional project managers, design consultants and contractors were able to execute the repairs within the three-year funding deadline. The repairs primarily included abating and cleaning the facility; a new insulated roofing system; structural improvements; installing service lighting and power; exhaust fans; repointing and finishing of historic terracotta coping and exterior paint.
Project overview
The project consist of interior and exterior analysis and repairs to the building structure and envelope damaged by age, water, and the seismic events that occurred in Salt Lake City in 2020. The City will hire a CMGC with historic remodel, renovation, preservation, and restoration experience to perform this work scope. The design team will assess the current conditions of the facility. Based on their findings, they’ll establish the project definition and scope of work. The construction scope must be completed no later than August 31, 2025.
