Administrative Services

Working in Administrative Services Division, you will be a part of providing leadership, project support, strategy, and vision setting to the department while establishing transparent processes and standards for solutions that serve the public and enhance City assets. Applicants for roles within the Administrative Services Division can expect to play a pivotal role in centralized support while they back the five other divisions across Public Services. Applicants may not be in a public-facing role, but their work will have a direct impact on how the department’s services are delivered to the public and internal customers.

Holly Draney, Financial Analyst:

  • Holly, who has been with the City for 11.5 years, currently supports multiple divisions in Public Services, and “some of my job responsibilities include analysis of budgets, managing complex spending plans for both capital and operating expenses and revenues.”
  • A typical days looks like “responding to emails, (Microsoft) Teams chats and answering phone calls.” Holly also performs several of her job functions using the City’s information management system Workday, by “extracting data from Workday into Excel and then compiling the data to readable comprehensive information, updating budget planners with actuals and expenses, and sorting through encumbrances to identify supplier/customer information, contract information and determine if the budget is obligated or non-obligated.”
  • Holly is excited to come to work everyday because of the “variety of tasks I get to work on and the opportunity to learn new things. Knowing that I have a sense of purpose in the work I do.”
  • Holly enjoys working for local government because “there is opportunity for growth, and it is a stable and secure environment. I also like that the work is related to building and improving the communities of Salt Lake City.”

Compliance

Working in the Compliance Division, you will be a part of enhancing the safety and accessibility for residents and visitors of Salt Lake City by ensuring ordinances and laws are observed to keep people safe. Applicants for roles within the Compliance Division can expect to maintain a high level of personal and professional integrity while providing customer service to the public and internal customers.

Engineering

Working in the Engineering Division, you will be a part of administering the design and procurement of construction projects funded by the City’s Capital Improvement Program and the Funding Our Future bond. Applicants for roles within the Engineering Division can expect to support projects that improve streets within the public right-of-way, office buildings, bikeways, and sidewalks – all important areas of the City’s growing infrastructure that everyone uses.

Facilities

Working in the Facilities Division, you will be a part of an internal service that provides maintenance and repairs to City buildings such as City Hall, the Sorenson Unity Center, Smith’s Ballpark, and fire stations. This division is also responsible for the security and maintenance of the downtown and Sugar House business districts. Applicants for roles within the Facilities Division can expect to directly provide or support the skilled trades and maintenance to the City’s facilities to keep this important infrastructure running smoothly for its occupants.

Fleet

Working in the Fleet Division, you will be a part of an internal service that maintains and repairs City vehicles, equipment, and machinery. These range from Police and Fire vehicles, snowplows and road construction equipment, to the loaner electric vehicles used by City employees. Applicants for roles in the Fleet Division can expect to directly provide or support the skilled mechanics or procurement processes that it takes to keep the City’s vehicles and equipment moving and operating safely.

Streets

Working in the Streets Division, you will be a part of performing the maintenance, repair, and emergency response for asphalt roads and treatments, traffic markings and striping, street and bike lane sweeping, concrete repair and ADA ramp upgrades, and snow and ice control. Applicants for roles within the Streets Division can expect to provide crucial support in maintaining vital infrastructure to keep residents and visitors safe while on the road.
