WHEREAS, reproductive justice is a human rights framework rooted in the belief that all individuals have the right to control their reproductive destinies, free from coercion, discrimination, and violence; and

WHEREAS, recognizing that reproductive justice encompasses not only the right to make decisions about reproduction but also the right to access the resources and conditions necessary to thrive and make meaningful choices about our bodies, our families, and our communities; and

WHEREAS, acknowledging that systemic inequalities, including but not limited to racism, classism, sexism, ableism, and homophobia, perpetuate disparities in access to reproductive healthcare, education, and services, disproportionately impacting marginalized communities; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that we center the voices and experiences of those most affected by reproductive injustices, including people of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and low-income communities, in our efforts to advance reproductive health and rights; and

WHEREAS, by embracing a reproductive justice framework, we commit to dismantling barriers to reproductive healthcare, addressing social determinants of health, advocating for policies that promote access and belonging, and uplifting the self-determination and agency of all individuals; and

WHEREAS, in our pursuit of reproductive justice, I affirm Salt Lake City’s solidarity with movements for racial justice, gender equity, economic equality, and human rights, recognizing that these struggles are interconnected and essential to creating a more just and equitable society; and

WHEREAS, I call upon residents to join in advancing the principles of reproductive justice, advocating for policies that uphold the dignity, autonomy, and rights of all individuals, and working towards a future where every person can thrive with dignity and respect; and

WHEREAS, let us strive together to create a community where reproductive justice is not only a goal but a reality for all.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, proclaim the month of September as:
