Salt Lake City Celebrates Completion of Three New Non-Motorized Boat Ramps on Jordan River

SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City Public Lands is pleased to announce the completion of three new boat ramps for non-motorized watercraft along the Jordan River. The three new ramps are located at:

  • Fisher Mansion (1206 W 200 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84104)
  • Gadsby Trailhead (1223 W North Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84116)
  • Riverview Trailhead (1835 N Redwood Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84116)

“This is a project the community has been asking for and I’m so glad this westside treasure will be more accessible to canoers, kayakers and other non-motorized watercrafts who can use these concrete structures to get in and out of the water more easily,” said Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “As the population of the Salt Lake Valley continues to grow, it will be especially important for our city and our community to prioritize our parks, trails, and other natural resources.”

If entering the water at the Fisher Mansion or Gadsby Trailhead, users can enjoy a 1-2 hour float downstream to the Riverview Trailhead or a 3-4 hour float to the Porter’s Landing takeout located on Center Street in North Salt Lake.

The scenic route along this stretch of the river takes users by the Utah State Fairgrounds, Northwest Recreation Center, Cottonwood Park, Backman Elementary, Riverside Park, Day-Riverside Library, Roots Disc Golf Course, and Rose Park Golf Course.

The Jordan River is an integral part of the community’s identity and the recreational heart of Salt Lake City’s westside neighborhoods. The completion of this project will help further expand recreational opportunities and will continue the work to raise awareness of the river’s educational, ecological, and cultural importance to the community, city, and region.

Funding sources for this project include an Outdoor Recreation Grant from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, a donation from Rocky Mountain Power, funding from the 2019 SLC Capital Improvement Program, Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation and the Utah State Department of Natural Resources. Construction began in October 2020 and was complete as of May 28, 2021.
