Special Inspector (SI) Agreement and Special Inspector Requirements
- All special inspectors will be independent from the contractor responsible for the work being inspected as per IBC Chapter 17.
- The signed, current, and completed Special Inspector Agreement is required to be uploaded to the “City Approved Forms” folder in PDOX.
- Special Inspector requirements will be addressed as early as possible prior to construction or when the project begins construction.
- The owner, contractor, or owners rep will review the SI agreement/plan requirements and call for a consultation inspection (197) to ensure all special inspection requirements are being met.
- A consultation is required on site with the special inspector, trade foreman, contractor, and City inspector prior to any special inspections being conducted.
Scheduling Special Inspections
- All third-party inspections will be scheduled in the City’s inspection system within 1 business day of the third-party inspection being completed or approved. Inspections will be scheduled for all wood, concrete, exterior systems, fire penetrations, and any other items that are part of the special inspector agreement and on the plans. This ensures that the City can accurately record all progress.
- Include areas/grid lines, special inspector name, and agency on all inspection requests.
- Where fire stopping is required to be special inspected, call for a penetration inspection so compliance can be verified by the City inspector.
- NOTE: All fire penetrations and fire rated special inspections will be 100% verified on site by the City inspector prior to concealment.
On-Site Inspections
- All special inspections will be conducted using the approved City stamped plans. The stamped City approved plans will need to be provided to the special inspector at the time of inspection.
- All relevant product listings and assemblies will be on site for all inspections and supplied to the special inspector and City inspector for all inspections.
- Reach out to the City inspector the morning of the inspection between 7-8am to coordinate with the inspector.
Special Inspections Reports
- All third-party reports will need to be accessible on-site and provided to the City Inspector prior to, or on arrival.
- All third-party reports will be uploaded to PDOX in the “Special Inspection Reports” folder within 1 business day of the third-party inspection. Access to that folder is granted by emailing [email protected]
- Upon completion of the project a final completion letter from all third-party inspectors will be provided to the City Inspector and uploaded to the “Inspection Closeout Documents” folder.
