Window & Door Schedule Information

A schedule must be completed for each room:

• Room name and use
• Room size
• Window size (width and height)
• Type of window (how it opens)
• Net clear egress area
• Whether tempered glass is required
• Windowsill height

Energy Efficiency Requirement

Replacement windows must include an NFRC label showing a minimum U-factor rating of 0.32.

Tempered Glass Requirements

Tempered glass is required in the following locations:

• Within 2 feet of a door swing and within 60 inches of the floor
• Within 60 inches above a shower or tub floor
• Glass panels in doors or tub/shower enclosures
• Within 3 feet vertically and 5 feet horizontally of stairs or landings
• Large glass areas (over 9 sq ft) when:
  • Bottom edge is less than 18 inches above the floor
  • Top edge is more than 36 inches above the floor
  • Located within 3 feet of a walking surface

Egress Window Requirements

Egress windows are required in each sleeping area and on each level of the home.

• Minimum net clear width: 20 inches
• Minimum net clear height: 24 inches
• Minimum net clear area: 5.7 sq ft
• Minimum net clear area (grade level): 5.0 sq ft
• Maximum sill height: 44 inches

Net clear egress area is the open space created when the window is fully opened. Refer to IRC Section R310 for additional requirements.
