This month, I would like to discuss how Salt Lake City crews work to repair damaged roads.
The Streets Division’s asphalt crew is using new techniques and equipment, one being an infrared reclaimer. This tool allows crews to use old asphalt to fill in potholes or patch the road using infrared technology.
It begins by heating the asphalt to 350 degrees. Crews then shovel and rake up the surface, mixing in new asphalt and oil. Once it’s mixed, crews put it back on the road, spread and roll it like new!
This tool will be especially useful during the winter months when asphalt is not manufactured and sold.
