Driver Etiquette
This month, I want to give drivers a gentle reminder on how to share the road with cyclists. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Always watch for bikes. In Utah, a bicycle is considered a vehicle and has the right to use the road.
- Pass with care. If you need to pass a cyclist, do so on their left, at least three feet away.
- Yield for cyclists. Just like you would for a car, yield for a cyclist when turning or merging.
- Watch the sidewalks. In Salt Lake City, bicycles are allowed on the sidewalk, except in the Central Business District downtown.
Let’s treat everyone, including our cyclists, with respect on the road and keep each other safe.
