Mayor Erin Mendenhall declares April 22, 2023, Salt Lake City Marathon Day

WHEREAS, approximately 7,000 athletes from all 50 states and 16 countries will participate in the 2023 University of Utah Health Salt Lake City Marathon; and

WHEREAS, the Salt Lake City Marathon provides athletes of all ages and abilities a unique opportunity to experience the energy of Salt Lake City through the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 5-K Race, 10-K Run, Kids K, and Bike Tour; and

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City, with abundant recreation opportunities, has a long history of supporting and promoting physical fitness and healthy living; and

WHEREAS, over 1,000 local volunteers will support the athletes, and public safety teams led by the Salt Lake City Fire and Police Departments will keep all participants and spectators safe; and

WHEREAS, many athletes will use this opportunity to raise funds for the Huntsman Hometown Heroes program, which has provided over $5 million dollars for cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute since 2003; and

WHEREAS, in its 20th year, the Salt Lake City Marathon has established itself as a premier event in the Capital City.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2023, as:

Salt Lake City Marathon Day
