Mayor Mendenhall declares July 2023 Muslim American Heritage Month in SLC

WHEREAS, Muslim American Heritage Month provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of Muslim Americans to the cultural, social, and economic landscape of our nation; and

WHEREAS, the Muslim American community has and continues to enrich our society through their contributions in education, science, technology, arts, literature, business, public service, and many others; and

WHEREAS, Muslim Americans have played a vital role in promoting interfaith dialogue, fostering understanding, and building bridges of cooperation among diverse communities; and

WHEREAS, this month also provides an opportunity to reflect on the values of compassion, tolerance, and unity shared by Muslim Americans and people of all faiths, reinforcing the bonds that unite us as a country; and

WHEREAS, the history of Muslim Americans and their life stories often remain neglected or defaced by misunderstanding, bigotry, and anti-Muslim hate in forms of speech and actions; and

WHEREAS, Muslim American Heritage Month serves as a platform to educate the public about the rich history, traditions, and beliefs of MuslimAmericans, promoting cross-cultural understanding and appreciation; and

WHEREAS, Salt Lake City is grateful to work in conjunction with our localMuslim-American communities and organizations to be at the forefront of efforts to combat discrimination, prejudice, and bigotry, working tirelessly to promote inclusion, social justice, and equality for all.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Erin Mendenhall, Mayor of Salt Lake City, proclaim July 2023 as:
