Digital accessibility

Making City websites and documents easy for everyone to use.

We are working to make Salt Lake City’s websites and digital documents accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. This means people can find, understand, and use City information no matter what device or technology they use.

Why digital accessibility matters

Accessible digital content helps everyone by:

  • Making City information easier to use
  • Working better on phones and tablets
  • Reducing confusion and mistakes

When content is accessible, the whole community benefits.

The City’s Web Accessibility Action Plan

Salt Lake City has a plan to meet federal digital accessibility requirements. This plan focuses on:

  • Using web pages instead of PDFs whenever possible
  • Updating documents so they work for all users

We are focusing on these key areas:

Clear standards:

The City follows a Digital Content Strategy and Style Guide that supports accessibility, usability, and clear communication across SLC.gov. This helps make information consistent and accurate, and the City’s brand recognizable and trustworthy.

Employee training:

City staff received training on how to create accessible digital content and understand their role in accessibility.

Audits and fixes:

We are reviewing our websites and PDFs to find and fix accessibility issues.

Plain language updates:

We are refreshing web pages with clear, easy-to-understand content.

Our ongoing commitment

Salt Lake City will continue to improve digital accessibility by:

  • Building a shared understanding of accessibility laws
  • Reviewing important web pages and PDFs
  • Moving key information to accessible web pages
  • Fixing PDFs that must stay as PDFs
  • Creating long-term practices to prevent future accessibility issues

We are committed to making City information accessible for everyone.
