Demolition permits

Before starting demolition work, you’ll need to call our office to request an inspection.

Please provide:

  • The flag number
  • The address
  • A contact person’s name and phone number
  • Whether the property is residential or commercial

In most cases, our team will review the site the same day or the next business day.

Steps to get a demolition permit

  1. Call our office to request an inspection.
  2. We review the location in the field.
  3. We call in our findings.
  4. You may then receive your permit with a No Barricading Required or Barricading Required.
  5. If barricading is required, visit our office at 349 South 200 East, Suite 150 for instructions on how to set it up.

What we look for in the transportation inspection

We inspect each demolition site to decide if barricades are needed to keep people walking, biking, or driving safe near the work area.

We look at:

  • Where the structure is located in relation to where debris will be pulled (the work area). This helps determine whether the work can be done entirely on site or if it will affect the public right-of-way.
  • How close the structure is to the public sidewalk, street, or alley.
    • If it’s far away, barricades are usually not required.
    • If it’s close, barricades are likely required to protect the public.

If barricading is required, you’ll need to visit our office for barricading guidance and to submit a site plan showing nearby public sidewalks and streets.
