Allen Park: The Hidden Gem of SLC Public Lands

Allen Park: The Hidden Gem of SLC Public Lands

Tucked away in the heart of Salt Lake City is Allen Park, a magical place that blends art and nature. Often called a hidden gem among SLC’s public lands, this one-of-a-kind park is an incredibly special piece of Salt Lake City history.

The History of Allen Park

Allen Park’s story began in 1931, when George and Ruth Allen transformed their property into a destination for art, history, nature, and even exotic birds. This creative park served as a gathering and living space for local artists and academics. Before the city acquired Allen Park, it had not been maintained for decades, and Public Lands is committed to restoring the space to its full potential.

What is next for this space?

To prepare for the next phase of improvements, Allen Park will close on November 17 until spring of 2026. During that time, new water and fire lines will be installed on the property. This is just the beginning for Allen Park, a GO Bond funded project. Future plans include continuing turning the space into an open, public, pedestrian park that highlights the site’s unique history, preserves and enhances ecological features, repairs the artistic expressions scattered throughout the site, and restores key structures.

Fall at Allen Park

There is no better time to visit Allen Park than right now before the closure. In autumn, the trees are colorful, and the park is full of peaceful ambience. Whether you’re out for a quiet walk or relaxing beneath the leaves, we encourage you to go out and enjoy the park this fall!

How to Get Involved

Allen Park thrives because of community support. If you’d like to be a part of its story, consider joining the Friends of Allen Park group. It is a wonderful way to stay informed, volunteer, and help preserve this local treasure for years to come.
