BE W.I.L.D – Limit your impact

Be Aware of the Impact of Your Feet, Wheels, and Paws

We are visitors in these community spaces. Let’s leave them better than we found them. If you bring it with you, make sure it leaves with you. Be aware of the impact of your feet, wheels, and paws

1. Reduce Your Footprint

Every small action adds up. One of the most effective ways to protect our public spaces is to simply reduce your environmental footprint.

  • Pick up trash, even if it’s not yours.
  • Avoid damaging plants, trees, or park features.
  • Stick to designated trails to preserve native ecosystems.

These everyday choices help ensure that our parks stay vibrant and healthy for future generations.

2. Respect Park Maintenance Efforts

With more people using parks and trails than ever before, the demand for upkeep and maintenance is growing. City crews work hard to maintain clean restrooms, safe trails, and well-kept parks, but your help makes a big difference.

  • Don’t litter or vandalize park property.
  • Report damage or safety concerns to park staff.
  • Leave areas as you found them (or better).

Respecting public spaces helps reduce the burden on maintenance teams and allows resources to be used more efficiently.

3. Be a Responsible Dog Owner

Public lands are great places to enjoy with your furry friend, but they come with responsibilities:

  • Always pick up after your dog. Carry a poop bag holder and take your waste with you until you find a trash can.
  • Keep dogs on leash unless in a designated off-leash area.
  • Respect others who may be uncomfortable around dogs or have reactive pets of their own.

Clean, courteous behavior keeps parks enjoyable for everyone.

4. Bike Responsibly

Biking is a fun and adventurous way to explore natural areas, but it comes with risks if not done thoughtfully.

  • Stay on designated bike trails to protect fragile plants and habitats.
  • Avoid muddy trails, which can easily be damaged by tires.
  • Yield to pedestrians and be mindful of trail sharing.

Smart biking helps prevent erosion, trail damage, and conflict with other park users.

A Shared Responsibility

Our public lands belong to all of us. That means it’s up to each of us to treat these spaces with care and respect. By being mindful of your actions, you help keep Salt Lake City’s parks and trails beautiful, safe, and accessible for everyone.
