Cottonwood Park: GO Bond Project

Project Description

Cottonwood Park is located along the Jordan River in the Fairpark neighborhood in Council District 1. The park has a playground, restroom, cricket pitch, half basketball court, jogging/walking path, sand volleyball court, pavilions, picnic tables, and an off-leash dog area.

Using funds from the Parks, Trails, & Open Space General Obligation Bond (GO Bond), approved in November 2022, Cottonwood Park will be “reimagined” to better reflect neighborhood needs and identities. This may include the replacement of failing assets; the addition of unique elements capturing the surrounding neighborhood’s identity and history; increasing elements of placemaking; or adding multilingual identity and wayfinding signage.

With Cottonwood Park located along the Jordan River corridor, our public engagement strategy will be synchronized with the vision of the Emerald Ribbon Action Plan while also taking into account the insights gathered about the park specifically.

Community Engagement

In the Spring of 2024, SLC Public Lands asked members in the community what improvements they would like to see at Cottonwood Park. Public Lands has evaluated the feedback and has used this information to help develop concept designs for the park. Read the report below to find out what we heard!

Project Updates

Concept designs for the park will be released during the workshop for the Emerald Ribbon Action Plan on July 10 and July 11 (see below for more details). If you are not able to attend, you can view and comment on the designs by taking the Emerald Ribbon survey, follow the link below! This initiative aims to align the vision of the Jordan Ribbon with the adjacent parks along the river.
