Program Overview
YouthCity Internships support youth through structured career exploration, skill development, and supervised work experiences. The program builds on existing YouthCity teen programming and integrates mentorship, accountability, and whole-youth support.

- Internship applications close: May 15th
- 6-Week Internship: June 8th – July 17th
- 8-Week Internship: June 8th – July 30th
- Daily schedule varies by internship
YouthCity Internships
Build confidence, develop real-world skills, and grow as a leader while gaining hands-on experience with youth.
YouthCity: Child Development I
This is a 6-week unpaid opportunity designed to spark interest, build confidence, and prepare youth for higher levels of responsibility.

- Monday-Friday mornings
- Eligibility:
- Open to Salt Lake City youth in grades 7–12
- Topics
- Career exposure & interest building
- Communication & teamwork skills
- Time management & responsibility
- Introduction to workplace expectations
- Project-based learning
- Supervised site exposure
YouthCity: Child Development II
This is a 6-week unpaid opportunity that supports youth who are ready for more responsibility but may not yet be prepared for a fully hourly position.

- Open to Salt Lake City youth in grades 9–12
- Topics
- Increased accountability and role ownership
- Supervised work-based learning experiences

YouthCity Government Internships

YouthCity Government: Policy in Action
This is a 6-week unpaid opportunity designed to immerse Salt Lake City high school students in the mechanics of municipal government.
- Schedule:
- Thursday afternoons
- Eligibility:
- Open to Salt Lake City youth in grades 9–12
- Topics:
- Participants will be trained to identify, monitor, and influence public policy, gaining an insider’s view of careers in the public sector.
YouthCity Government: Service Squad
This is a 6-week unpaid opportunity with a community service focus, operated through a partnership with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s “Promising Youth” Program.
- Schedule:
- Tuesday mornings
- Eligibility:
- Open to Salt Lake City youth in grades 9–12
- Topics:
- Participants will be trained to develop and lead innovative service projects. The program will emphasize the importance of community involvement and prepare students to become active leaders in their neighborhoods.
City Department Internships
Get real work experience through paid internships with Salt Lake City departments
Salt Lake City Employment:
This is an 8-week paid opportunity and prioritizes high school students who demonstrate readiness for formal workforce expectations.

- Must be between 16 & 18 years old
