Housing Advisory & Appeals Board

The Housing Advisory and Appeals Board seeks to improve housing and neighborhood conditions throughout the City by providing recommendations to Mayor Erin Mendenhall and City Council. The board also hears and decides appeals regarding deficiencies from housing inspections. All demolitions and landscape waivers, not in an historic district, must be approved by this board.

If you are interested in serving on this board, please fill out and submit an application online. Only applications submitted up to one year prior to a vacancy date will be considered. The Mayor’s office will only contact applicants when considering them for specific appointments.

Member Qualifications

Mayor Mendenhall and City Council aim to provide a balance of geographical, professional, neighborhood, and community representation when appointing members to the Housing Advisory and Appeals Board. There are ten members, each serving a four-year term. Each member may serve up to two full terms. Residency Requirement: Must be a resident of the City.

Powers and Duties

  • Decide appeals of housing inspections
  • Approve demolition requests not in historic districts
  • Conduct housing impact and landscape hearings
  • Recommend new procedures and ordinances regarding housing to City Council
