Salt Lake City Council Issues Statement on H.B. 267

The Council reaffirms all workers’ rights to fair wages, safe conditions, and respect.

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 7, 2025 – The Salt Lake City Council released the below statement in response to the Legislature’s adoption of H.B. 267.

“Stripping public unions of their bargaining rights—and denying workers the ability to unite for better wages, safer conditions and a fair workplace—weakens the essential services that keep our communities safe and thriving. Public employees deserve a voice in shaping their work environment and the resources they need to serve Utahns effectively.

We urge Governor Cox to veto H.B. 267 and stand with the thousands of public servants who dedicate their lives to our communities. Protecting collective bargaining is essential to retaining skilled employees, maintaining strong public services and upholding Utah’s commitment to supporting working families.

No matter the outcome, we remain committed to fair treatment, competitive pay and respect for our workforce.”
