This month, I want to discuss our city’s water supply. More than 60 percent of our water comes from mountain streams in the Wasatch. During the summer, groundwater from wells maintained by SLC Public Utilities is mixed with mountain stream water to meet water demand and to secure enough water for fire protection and public safety.
SLC Public Utilities also owns and operates three surface water treatment plants and purchases water from the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake & Sandy (MWDSLS).
While Public Utilities works to maintain our water supply, it’s important for us to do our part and conserve one of our most important resources as our city continues to grow.
Some easy ways to do so include turning off the tap while you brush your teeth, only running the dishwasher or washing machine when they’re full and repairing leaky pipes or faucets.
