Public vs. Private Street Lights

The Yalecrest neighborhood has a combination of privately-owned and city-owned street lights. This is a reminder to understand the differences between the two to ensure that city-owned lights are not modified, damaged, or used inappropriately.

Private Street Light

  • Property owners may elect to decorate or modify these street lights as they choose.
  • Property owners are responsible for maintenance.

City-owned Street Light

  • Prohibited to modify these lights in any way.
  • Prohibited to use the electricity from these lights for anything, including holiday lights.
  • Non-electric decorations like ribbons or garlands are allowed.
