North Bench Pumphouse Construction Restoration and Reclamation

North Bench Pumphouse Construction Restoration and Reclamation

The North Bench Pumphouse Construction Project updated critical water utility infrastructure for Salt Lake City residents. The project disturbed open space and trail segments along the Meadow Trail above 18th Avenue Trailhead. Please refer to the map above as you read these restoration plans listed below.

The Meadow Trail (shown in yellow) has been shifted to the east and surfaced with a crushed, hardpack gravel for better drainage and long-term durability/accessibility. A natural-surface dirt trail (shown as the dashed black line) is still accessible along the east side of the I Street Bike Park.

The fenced area directly north of the Morris Reservoir will be maintained as a “Wildfire Mitigation Staging Area”. Salt Lake City Fire and other fire agencies will store equipment here and utilize this space as a heli-pad for wildfire fighting when necessary.

All natural areas impacted by the pumphouse construction (orange) is to be scarified and drill-seeded to maximize vegetation regrowth.

The I Street Bike Park, which is formally managed by Salt Lake City Public Lands in partnership with 100% volunteer-led maintenance team, has had to re-orient its entrance to the east side. New water tanks, shade trees, and soil piles have been provided to the park riders to rebuild or improve what was affected during the construction project.
