Help care for the places we all enjoy.
The Salt Lake City Department of Public Lands’ Adopt-A-Spot program gives community groups an opportunity to regularly care for a designated park, trailhead, open space, or other public space.
The program expands community stewardship alongside the City’s existing maintenance efforts—it does not replace them.
What do Adopt-A-Spot groups do?
Groups commit to caring for their adopted space at least six times per year through activities such as:
- Litter and debris removal
- Weeding and minor landscaping
- General cleanup
- Reporting maintenance concerns or hazards
Groups may also coordinate an annual stewardship event with Public Lands.
What does the City do?
Public Lands works with each group to identify a location and establish an appropriate scope of work. The City continues to manage and maintain the space and may provide limited supplies, tools, or staff support when available.
What isn’t included?
Adopt-A-Spot is focused on caring for and improving existing public spaces and infrastructure. It does not authorize groups to install new structures or signage, modify infrastructure, remove trees, or make significant landscape changes without prior city approval.
Have an idea for a larger improvement? We’d still love to hear it and can help identify the appropriate process.
Who can participate?
Community groups, neighborhood organizations, nonprofits, businesses, schools, and other organized groups are welcome to apply.
Report your Adopt a Spot Activity
After each Adopt-a-Spot activity, please take a moment to let us know what you worked on. Whether you spent a few minutes picking up litter, pulled weeds during your lunch break, or organized a larger cleanup, your updates help Salt Lake City Public Lands track community stewardship and identify any site needs that may require our attention.
