SLC Park Rangers: Who Are They & What Do They Do?

Who are they

Salt Lake City’s Park Rangers are dedicated to improving our public lands by ensuring that our parks, trails, and natural areas remain safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. The rangers help foster a sense of connection and care for the outdoor spaces we all share. They strive to build lasting relationships with park visitors and encourage everyone to take an active role in preserving our parks.

What do they do?

Whether greeting visitors, leading tours, or answering questions, Park Rangers are always ready to lend a helping hand. Their work includes:

  • Welcoming and assisting park visitors
  • Educating the public about park rules, safety, and available services
  • Maintaining park cleanliness and safety by monitoring facilities and removing litter
  • Leading educational programs and guided tours
  • Supporting community events and volunteer efforts
  • Promoting the Park Ranger Program

Safety is one of their top priorities. If you ever need help or notice someone else who might, do not hesitate to reach out to a ranger. They are trained to assist with situations and keep our shared spaces safe.

Tracking Their Impact

Want to see what the rangers have been up to lately? Explore the Park Ranger Program Metrics Dashboard, which highlights daily logs, patrol updates, community partnerships, and event support from the past week. You’ll find a link to the dashboard at the bottom of their web page.

Looking Ahead

The SLC Park Rangers are already planning for their 2026 community events and gathering information about how they can improve safety, and they want your input! Do you have an idea for how rangers can make an even bigger impact? Share your thoughts and help shape future programming by taking the Park Ranger Safety and Educational Programming Survey.

Past Events

This year our Park Rangers hosted a wide variety of engaging and educational activities, including:

  • Guided park and historic site tours (City Cemetery, Fisher Mansion)
  • Community cleanup events
  • Library Nature Hours
  • Cloud watching and solar printing
  • and much more!

Next time you’re out enjoying one of Salt Lake City’s beautiful parks, take a moment to say hi to a Park Ranger. They’re always happy to share insights and answer questions. Together, we can keep our public lands safe and welcoming for generations to come.
