Public Services Mission Statement

Public Services is a team of professionals who value transparency, efficiency, and dignity. We are committed to providing essential municipal services and accessible public spaces for Salt Lake City by investing public funds effectively, efficiently, and sustainably to make life better throughout the community.


Administrative Services

This division helps the department run smoothly by managing budgets, financial planning, staff training, safety, and customer service. It also handles big-picture planning and supports communication, emergency response, contracts, and information systems.

Compliance

This team oversees parking enforcement, the City’s towing and impound services (which are contracted out), school crossing guards, parking pay stations, and the Main Library Parking Garage. Their work helps keep Salt Lake City safe and easy to get around.

Engineering

Engineering manages construction and related work in public spaces, like streets and sidewalks. They also support city construction projects from other departments, such as Public Lands, CRA, and Public Safety. In addition, they handle mapping services, land surveys, and work on new roads and subdivisions.


Facilities

This division maintains and repairs Salt Lake City’s public buildings, such as the City & County Building, fire stations, community centers, and parks buildings. They also manage building security and help keep downtown and Sugar House business districts clean and well-maintained.

Fleet

This internal team takes care of all City vehicles and equipment by handling maintenance, repairs, and new purchases. When vehicles are no longer usable, Fleet works with JJ Kane Auctions to sell them and recover some of the costs.

Streets

This team provides important services to Salt Lake City residents, including snow and ice removal, fixing and maintaining roads, replacing sidewalks and concrete, painting lane markings, and repairing or replacing street signs and traffic signals.
