Salt Lake City is no longer offering Green Vehicle Parking Program stickers.
The Green Vehicle Parking Program will end on June 30th 2026. After that date, green vehicle stickers/permits will no longer be valid at metered parking stalls. Parking at a metered stall without paying after that date will result in a parking citation beginning August 1st.
Why is the program ending?
- The City created the Green Vehicle Parking Program to encourage broader use of alternative fuel vehicles. The city has met that goal. In 2024, about 7,400 battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles were registered in the city, up from about 2,000 in 2019.
- The City ordinance that established this program required Salt Lake City to use the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay standards to identify the cleanest, most efficient vehicles for the program. The EPA is no longer updating that list.
- Many types of alternative fuel vehicles are now on the road. Without updated standards, the city cannot verify that permit holders drive the cleanest, best-performing vehicles. Rather than continue a program it cannot administer fairly we have decided to end it.
