Salt Lake City is no longer offering Green Vehicle Parking Program stickers.
The Green Vehicle Parking Program will end on June 30th 2026. After that date, green vehicle stickers/permits will no longer be valid at metered parking stalls. Parking at a metered stall without paying after that date will result in a parking citation beginning August 1st.
Why is the program ending?
- This budget season the City had to make difficult decisions to cut programs that we know residents valued. We had to focus our limited funds on core services, continued maintenance, and programs that serve our most vulnerable, low-income residents. We assessed the Green Vehicle Parking Program through that lens, alongside the limited Federal information we are now receiving.
- The City ordinance that established this program required Salt Lake City to use the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay standards to identify the cleanest, most efficient vehicles for the program. The EPA is no longer updating that list.
- Many types of alternative fuel vehicles are now on the road. Without updated standards, the city cannot verify that permit holders drive the cleanest, best-performing vehicles. Rather than continue a program it cannot administer fairly we have decided to end it.
