Overview
The 1300 East/University District Circulation Study is a planning effort that will result in recommendations for transportation changes for the area. The study will focus on complementing land uses, improving multi-modal transportation connections to the University of Utah, and incorporating additional transit, walking, and biking improvements on 1300 East and University Street. It will seek to strengthen the local business restaurant/retail district and update strategies for managing parking and motor vehicle traffic.
The study will result in corridor recommendations for 1300 East and University Street and selected west-east connectors, strategies to incorporate a new 200 South/University Street Mobility Hub, and conceptual designs for pedestrian and bicycle improvements, particularly at intersections and crossings. Unique considerations for this area include the business area on the western flank of the University of Utah campus and the eastern extent of the most heavily used transit corridor in the state along 200 South.
Main study goals include:
- Incorporating a multi-modal approach while creating recommendations for streets and connections within the study area
- Engaging the community and partner organizations in providing insights, considering options, and understanding conceptual approaches prior to entering engineering design phases for needed street reconstructions in the area
- Strengthening the local business area and the connection between the University of Utah and the adjacent neighborhood and businesses through short- and long-term transportation investments.
