Housing Priorities
During their meeting as the Community Reinvestment Agency (C.R.A.), the Council discussed Housing Development Funding Strategy priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. These are funds offered to the development community in an open and competitive process to achieve:
- Deeply affordable housing
- Affordable family housing with amenities for children
- Wealth-building opportunities
- Expanding opportunities
- Neighborhood services and commercial spaces
Community Reinvestment Agency (C.R.A.) Meeting
The Council, acting as the Community Reinvestment Agency, discussed the following items:
- Potential amendments to the terms of a Tax Increment Reimbursement Agreement with Mountain West Development for the Pickle & Hide project in the Granary District. The project was initially approved in 2025 by the board for redevelopment, including adaptive reuse of the Salt Lake Pickle Company building. That building was later demolished, prompting reconsideration of the original terms. The Board approved an adjusted tax increment reimbursement agreement reflecting the revised development proposal.
- Approved a straw poll that would use roughly three million in improvement funds for street infrastructure in the Rio Grande District.
Briefings
The Council was briefed on the following items during the work session:
- A proposal to participate in the Community Clean Energy program (formally known as Utah Renewable Communities). The program would provide an opportunity for nearly all homes and businesses within the city, and other member communities, to choose clean energy through their Rocky Mountain Power bill. Customers would be automatically enrolled in the program, with the option to opt out. (Watch)
- Potential amendments to address issues related to camping on city property, disposing of unclaimed property and obstructing sidewalks. (Watch)
- The Library Board’s recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27, which is the first of many discussions relating to the city’s annual budget process.
- A presentation from the Salt Lake County Council on the County budget, services and key priorities. Learn more about the County government here.
- A follow-up on the grant funding from the Federal Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) programs and the City’s Funding Our Future (FOF) housing programs. The Council will vote on final fund distribution on Tuesday, April 21.
