Description:
The City Council recently approved a property owner’s request to rezone four properties to allow the construction of a multi-unit housing building. The properties are at:
- 1433 South State Street,
- 1435 South State Street,
- 1420 South Edison Street, and
- 121 East Cleveland Avenue.
The property owner plans to combine the four parcels and build an apartment building with commercial spaces. The approximately 179 apartments would be a mix of studio, one, two, and three-bedroom units. This proposal includes demolishing a vacant home on 121 East Cleveland Avenue.
The Council also amended the Central Community Master Plan. A master plan outlines a vision that guides the future growth and development in a neighborhood over time. The property owner asked the Council to change the plan for this area from Medium Mixed Use and Low-Density Residential to High Mixed Use designations. This aligns the master plan with the property owner’s construction plans.
