Applications will remain open while funds last. Apply early to secure your voucher before funding runs out.

About the Program

Gas-powered landscaping equipment creates a lot of pollution! Electric tools are lighter, quieter, and easier to maintain than gas tools. They’re also better for our air quality. Let us help you make the switch.

Our Clean Air SLC programs aim to help Salt Lakers improve air quality in their homes and communities. We offer this program twice a year: spring and autumn. This spring, we’re offering discounts on many types of battery-operated equipment.

  • Handheld tools: leaf blowers/vacuums, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws
  • Lawn Mowers

Voucher Options

  • Recycle a gas-powered handheld tool for a $155 voucher toward one (1) battery-operated handheld tool.
  • Recycle a gas-powered lawn mower for a $295 voucher toward one (1) battery-operated lawn mower.
  • Apply for a $75 voucher toward one (1) battery-operated handheld tool.
  • Apply for a $145 voucher toward one (1) battery-operated lawn mower.

How It Works

1. Check your eligibility

If you live in Salt Lake City and you are over 18 years old, you can apply! Not sure if you live within city boundaries? Enter your address in this interactive map to check.

2. Gather proof of address

Do you live in SLC? Great! Next, you will need to upload one of the documents listed below to your application to show that you are eligible:

  • Major credit card bill
  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Mortgage statement

Important notes:

  • Please redact any sensitive information. We only need to verify your name, address, and date of the document.
  • The document must have a visible date of January 1, 2026 or later.
  • The name and address on the document must match those on your application.

Have questions? Check out our guide for examples of what is accepted (and not accepted) to verify your address.

3. Submit an application
  • Create a myslc.gov account or login to your existing account.
  • Select the application for this program.
  • Follow the steps to complete your application and upload your proof of address.
4. Wait for a response

If you’re awarded a voucher, you’ll receive an award email within two weeks with instructions on how to use your voucher.

The email will come from Clean Air SLC. Please be sure to check your spam folders for our emails! If you haven’t heard back within two weeks, please reach out to us at [email protected].

5. Recycle your gas-powered equipment

If you’re awarded a recycling voucher, the equipment you recycle has to work and be free of residual oil and gas in order to be accepted. You can dispose of these fluids at an AutoZone or O’Reilly Auto Parts location.

Bring the equipment to your selected vendor (ACE or Home Depot) for recycling. Store staff will check your voucher selection email and collect the gas-powered equipment. You must recycle your equipment before you can redeem your voucher.

6. Redeem your voucher

Whether you recycle equipment or not, vouchers will expire after June 4, 2026. Follow the instructions in your award email to redeem your voucher.
