Environmental Compliance
Our department supports project managers across the City in environmental compliance activities. This includes facilitating site risk assessments with consultants, permitting, and site monitoring processes. These processes may apply to City projects to meet environmental safety laws. (A common assessment is testing for contaminated soil before a new development can proceed.)
2025 Accomplishments
- Supported the Mayor’s Office and stakeholder groups, including the Utah Inland Port Authority, to complete the first phase of the baseline study, assessing the health, air quality and community impacts of development within the Inland Port jurisdictional area, including hosting two community events on the City’s Westside.
- Entered the Fleet Block into the Voluntary Cleanup Program with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality. The program allows the City to collect additional environmental data that will be used to inform future developments and open space.
- Initiated the Voluntary Cleanup Program process for Phase 2 of The Other Side Village (TOSV), and supported coordination between The Other Side Academy (TOSA), the Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulators, and the City’s Community and Neighborhoods Department (CAN). We’re supporting TOSA in identifying cost-effective options for soil disposal.
- Supported City departments with environmental compliance, such as Public Lands developing community gardens (Og-woi & Triangle Park), and Engineering with right-of-way dedications and environmental compliance issues.
2026 Priorities
- Continue supporting City departments on high-priority projects involving environmental compliance or remediation. Projects include The Other Side Village, Fleet Block, community gardens, and other development opportunities.
- Complete the baseline and preferred scenario community impact studies for the Utah Inland Port jurisdictional area.
