1700 South: 1700 East to 1900 East Lane Striping

Overview

Several years ago, Salt Lake City reconstructed 1700 South in concrete between 1700 East and 1900 East but did not immediately repaint the roadway markings. In June 2022, the City striped new bike lanes in both directions and added a yellow centerline. This was made possible by narrowing traffic lanes and allowing parking only on the north side of the street, between the piped driveways.

Bike lanes already existed just west and east of this segment, as well as on the south leg of 1700 South, making this a vital connection for people biking to homes, schools, stores, parks, and other destinations. Most vehicles had historically parked on the north side of the street, typically around 10 to 12 cars. UTA Route 223 also operates along this stretch.
