1700 South: 1700 East to 1900 East Lane Striping

1700 South Lane Striping (1700 East to 1900 East)

Overview

Several years ago, 1700 South, between 1700 East and 1900 East, was reconstructed in concrete. Salt Lake City did not replace any of the painted lines at that time. This summer, Salt Lake City will be adding painted lines (or striping) to the street in a new configuration that adds bike lanes in the eastbound and westbound directions. This will narrow traffic lanes and allow parking only on the north side of the street.

Currently, bike lanes exist in both directions just west and just east of this segment of 1700 South, and on 1700 South, to the south. This street is a critical connection for people riding bikes between homes, stores, schools, parks, and recreation inside and outside of the neighborhood. Most people currently park their vehicles on the north side of 1700 South (currently about 10-12 cars total, at most). One bus route, the 223, currently runs on this segment of 1700 South.

Final Lane Striping Design

Bike lanes in both directions and a yellow centerline will all be striped in June 2022. This will be made possible by narrowing traffic lanes and allowing parking only on the north side of the street, between the piped driveways.

What is next?

During June 2022, you will see City crews preparing the street for the striping design. You will be asked to move your car off of the street for about one day in advance of the striping operation.
