Council Staff Reviews Fiscal Year 2026-27 Proposed Budget
During an additional meeting for the budget season, Council staff presented an overview of Mayor Erin Mendenhall’s recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27, highlighting proposed investments, revenue trends, and key financial considerations. The discussion focused on balancing community needs, maintaining core services, and planning for the City’s long-term financial stability. Staff also explained trends in the General Fund Revenue, the proposed property tax increase process, and savings in the overall budget.

Enhancing Art & Culture in Salt Lake City
The Council was updated on the Cultural Core initiative, known as “THE BLOCKS.” The interlocal agreement with the County was developed to improve and market arts and cultural activities in Downtown and establish the space as a premier cultural district of the Intermountain West. In 2025, they noted improvements in event activation, hiring artists and performers, and commissioning public art projects, which they plan to continue this year.
FY27 Budget Updates
The Council was briefed on the following budgets during the work session:
- The Police Department
- The Community and Neighborhoods Department
- The Arts Council Division, which included a discussion of programming plans.

Next Council Meeting
Join us for our first public hearing for the FY27 budget on Tuesday, May 19
The Council meets first as the Community Reinvestment Agency (C.R.A.) at 2 p.m., followed by the Council’s work session. The formal meeting begins at 7 p.m. and ends upon the conclusion of items listed on the agenda.
Note: 200 E between 400 and 500 S will be closed for the setup of the Living Traditions Festival. If you are attending the meeting in person, please use the City Library parking garage and request a parking validation from Council staff. The garage can be accessed from 400 or 500 S between 200 and 300 E. ADA parking is available along 500 S, south of the City & County Building.
