Council Statement on Updated Public Comment Policy

SALT LAKE CITY, March 5, 2024 – Today, we updated the general public comment policy to preserve our ability to effectively conduct City business and maintain a safe and welcoming public forum for all constituents. Going forward, we will allot one hour for public comments on general topics not otherwise scheduled on the meeting agenda. Statutorily required public hearings—on land use or budget matters—will not be affected by this change.

We arrived at this solution during a public discussion where we weighed the very important policy goals we are charged with, including how we allocate resources amidst increasing demand for City services and ongoing population growth.

Anyone unable to address the Council during the general comment period may submit written comments in person, online, and via email and phone. Visit SLCCouncil.com for contact information.
