Salt Lake City Council Allocates $58.1 Million to Community Projects
This year’s Capital Improvement Program adoption focuses on traffic calming, capital maintenance, and historic preservation.
SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 27, 2024 – The Salt Lake City Council adopted the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for Fiscal Year 2024-25, allocating over $58.1 million in funding for vital citywide community projects. This significant investment will enhance public infrastructure, including streets, sidewalks, parks, and buildings, ensuring long-term benefits for Salt Lake City residents.
Throughout the budget process, the Council reviews CIP applications from both City departments and the public. The funding allocations reflect the Council’s commitment to improving the quality of public spaces and infrastructure throughout the City.
“Investing in our City’s infrastructure is investing in the future of our community,” said Council Chair Victoria Petro. “These projects are not just about bricks and mortar, but about enhancing the quality of life for every resident in a way that sets us up for continued success as we grow. This year’s CIP reflects our dedication to building a safer, stronger Salt Lake City.”
Notable projects funded for FY25 include:
- Urgent capital repairs at Memory Grove Park and the development of a preservation and maintenance plan for the park and its Freedom Trail.
- Restoring the Liberty Park Greenhouse and developing designs and construction documents for new facilities at the site.
- Citywide sidewalk repairs and concrete improvements in the public right-of-way.
- One-time funding to address a backlog of crucial maintenance projects across the City.
- Stabilization and improvement of the Fire Training Tower which is the only urban firefighter training facility of its kind in Utah.
- Continued funding for the Livable Streets traffic calming program.
- $100,000 for a citywide park restroom study, plan, and conceptual designs for new restrooms.
Applications for CIP projects open every fall and funded projects are typically completed within three years.
