The Council will interview eligible applicants during a public meeting on June 9.

SALT LAKE CITY, Mon., June 8, 2026 – The Salt Lake City Council will interview applicants for the vacant District Four seat at its Tues., June 9 meeting. Whenever a vacancy occurs on the Council, state law requires the remaining Council Members to select a qualified replacement within 30 days. The selected applicant will represent District Four for the remainder of the term, and the seat will be on the ballot in the 2027 Municipal elections.

What

Interviews for the Council District Four appointment

During the interviews, each applicant will be given three to five minutes to provide a verbal presentation on topics of their choice:

  • Applicants must be present in person.
  • To ensure equal time for each applicant in round 1, there will not be Q&A or dialogue with Council Members.
  • The Council will randomly assign the order of presentations by drawing names at the start of the meeting.

After hearing from each applicant, the Council will vote and the applicant who receives four or more votes will be appointed. If a single applicant does not receive a majority vote, the top two applicants will move on to a second round interview before a final vote and possible “coin toss” in the event of a tie.

Who

The Salt Lake City Recorder’s Office, City Council and eligible District Four applicants.
