Salt Lake City to Hold Truth in Taxation Hearing

The City Council invites residents, stakeholders and more to participate in the hearing process. 

SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 18, 2025 – The Salt Lake City Council will hold a Truth in Taxation public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. as required by Utah law. This hearing, triggered this year by a judgment levy for Salt Lake City’s General Fund, gives residents the opportunity to comment on changes to the City’s property tax rates.  

After the hearing, the Council will adopt the final tax rate of levy for the City and Library Fiscal Year 2025-26 budgets.  

WHO: Salt Lake City constituents (including residents, property owners and more), the Salt Lake City Council and Salt Lake City administrative staff. 

WHAT: A Truth in Taxation public hearing hosted by the Salt Lake City Council to gather constituent feedback on changes in property tax rates, triggered by a judgment levy. A judgment levy is a one-time property tax rate adjustment to make up for lost revenue caused by property owners successfully appealing to lower their tax bills.

WHEN: Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. 

Note: The Council’s formal meeting will be held at 6 p.m. to accommodate the 7 p.m. Truth in Taxation hearing.
