On February 21, 2023, Council Member Alejandro Puy participated in the Senate Business and Labor Committee on two main issues of interest: Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) and Railroad Safety. For UIPA, Council Member Puy strongly supports SB 241 Utah Inland Port Authority Amendments. Since a portion of the Utah Inland Port is within his district, he is grateful for the collaboration between the City, State, and Port to make changes in the current draft.

For Railroad Safety, Council Member Puy supports Representative Schultz’s bill, HB 63, which would create an Office of Rail Safety. One of the responsibilities of the office would be to regulate and monitor time limits for blocking railroad-highway grade crossings. Council Member Puy recognizes the impact of train blockage on his constituents and believes the proposed changes in the bill will help improve the lives of residents in communities all over the state.
